Who is Mia Emani Jones? Only the most gorgeous star of HBO's reality series FBoy Island season 2. I know what you're thinking... Will there be spoilers? NO! I don't get down like that, this time 😂! We are here to talk about those long micro braids she was rocking all season long. They got her through heartbreak, sexy beach slo-mos, and a few hot makeout seshes!
Let's take a look at Mia's long micro braid looks and teach you how to re-create them!
I have to shout out celebrity Hairstylist Sharif Poston, who created all of Mia's Hairstyles throughout the show. From music videos to commercials, he's a hair, GOD!
He's worked with stars like Justin Beiber, and Ariana Grande to Neicy Nash, Taraji P Henson, and the meca of supermodels Iman!
It's safe to say we want to learn everything we can from his royal hair highness.
Before we get to the stunning hairstyles, let's talk about how to actually install long micro braids.
DIY Long Micro Braids - The Rubber Band Method
From first-hand experience, I can tell you using the rubber band method is the easiest and fastest way to install long micro braids on yourself. I don't know about you, but I don't want to sit in a chair for 10 hours and spend $400-$500 at the salon. I'd rather take 1-2 days out of my weekend and get to it!
Here's Everything You Need to Accomplish the Rubber Band Method for Long Micro Braids

Small Rubber Bands

How to do the Rubber Band Method for Long Micro Braids
One of the reasons why this is my favorite method is because it's so simple and only takes 5 steps.
Step 1:
First, part your hair into small sections. Make sure the section is as big or small as you want the braid.
Step 2:
Use your braiding gel and apply it to the section, and add the small rubber band to the section of hair.
Step 3:
Take a piece of the braiding hair and wrap it around the section of hair like a side-ways u. You should now have 3 pieces of hair. Two from the braiding hair and your section of hair.
Step 4:
Braid like normal until you start to run out of your own hair and then make a new section by parting the braiding hair.
Step 5:
Place the ends of your braids into boiling water for about 3-5min.
Now that you know how to install your long micro braids, you can begin trying out styles!
Here's How to Recreate Mia's Hairstyles 💁🏾♀️
The Double Decker Pony Tail Braid
At first glance, this looks like one ponytail. But as you look closer you can see that there are two. One on the top, and one underneath. The top ponytail has a braid detail which is too cute!
To accomplish this look, first, take the top section of hair and create your braid. Then secure it with an elastic. Next, take the leftover hair on the bottom and make another ponytail. BOOM! Done, easy as pie! This would also be adorable as a half up half down look too!
The Elegant Side Swoop Twist Bun
The big question here is, how in the hell do you get your side swoop to lay so perfectly? The secret? Lay each individual braid in place and secure the section with an elastic band before you add it to the bun.
To achieve the twisted bun, place the hair into a ponytail then separate the pony into two sections. twist each section of hair and secure the ends with an elastic then wrap them into each other in the bun and secure the entire bun with a few elastic bands.
The Half Up Half Down Bun
This is one of my favorite looks because it's so effortless. The trick here is to not put too much hair up into the bun so that you have an even ratio of hair on top and on the bottom.
This look is super simple to accomplish. Separate the hair into the top and the bottom sections, then gather the hair at the top of your head and start to twist the hair in one direction until you get it into the desired bun shape and secure it with an elastic band.
The Half Up - Half Down Side Braids
This is one of my favorite looks! It's put together and classic. To achieve this look, separate the top portion of the hair into two large sections on the side and one small section in the middle which will only have a few braids in it.
Braid each side of the hair and secure with an elastic individually. Once both sides are braided and secured, bring both braids together to secure with an elastic band.
The Half Up - Half Down Braided Space Buns
STOP! This braided space bun hairstyle is too cute!
It's giving zenon realness!
To achieve this look, separate a small top portion of hair, then split that in two. Braid each side and stop where you want the space buns to start. Secure each section with an elastic band and wrap the leftover hair into two space buns and secure with an elastic band.
I love when I see my queens rocking natural and protective hairstyles because it shows other girls that their culture is beautiful! Mia Jones looks stunning in every single look!
